    Eligibility

    Who is required to obtain a Residential License?

    Two (2) and three (3) family non-owner occupied are required to obtain a Residential License Program.

    Four (4) and more units are required to obtain a Residential License Program.

    What properties are exempt?

    The following residential dwelling units are exempt from the license requirement:

    One Single family dwelling units are exempt.

    Dwelling units owned by the Housing Authority of New Haven (HANH)

    Properties where ALL tenants are Section 8 participants with the Housing Authority of New Haven are also exempt.

    Motels

    Hotels

    Rooming houses

    Condominiums and temporary housing as defined in the Ordinances

    Owner occupied two (2) and three (3) family houses

    Co-Ops

    Mixed-used Properties with one (1) dwelling unit

    ACCEPTED PROOF OF EXEMPTIONS

    Copy of State issued ID (Driver's License or Non-Driver's ID from DMV) OR New Haven Resident ID card AND copies of two(2) pieces of mail (such as utility bills).
